Air Products
Energy Management
The activities of Air Products span 13 countries and include the manufacture
and sale of speciality and intermediate chemicals, industrial gases and process
equipment. Air Products European headquarters consists of a large office block
housing key computer installations and some eight hundred staff.
Since the start of 2000, The Combined Energy Solutions team have been
designing, installing, providing and maintaining Air Products plant and
equipment guaranteeing energy saving costs of approximately 10%.
Project Contract
The CES Energy Management team firstly carried out extensive surveys to
establish patterns of energy use and thereby identify the most appropriate
technologies.
CES proposed and installed an environment-friendly and competitively priced 395
KW CHP (Combined Heat and Power) absorbtion Chiller to provide energy, heating
and cooling, ensuring an overall 10 per cent saving of energy costs and
reducing annual CO2 emissions by 2,700 tonnes.
Control and Management Operations
Throughout the contract, plant performance are monitored to assess any problems
that might arise and to respond quickly.
The CHP plant currently supply about 40 per cent of the site's daytime
electricity requirements. Should the mains power fail, the CHP energy will help
sustain essential services. At night, the CHP installation is switched off,
should there be any mains power outage the plant will be put back into action.
